10 Vegetables That Can Grow And Harvest

Top 10 Vegetables That Can Grow Throughout The Year

There are many vegetables that can grow throughout the year, unlike other seasonal vegetables and plants; these include onions, okra, peppers, eggplants, and tomatoes, but are not limited to.

When it comes to growing these vegetables year-round, it all depends on where you live and how much demand there is for them.

If you live where the temperature is cold or have a winter-like climate, then you won’t be able to grow most of these vegetables.

However, if you live in places such as Florida, Central America, and the Caribbean where the weather is warm, you are most likely to grow all the vegetables you want.

So, if you are lucky and live in a year-round, warmer climate,. You should be able to plant just about any vegetable crop you want.

All you need to do is provide your soil with the appropriate organic materials, such as compost and fertilizer, that plants love to feed on. This also goes for raised bed gardening.

For colder climates, it is ideal to grow all vegetables in a greenhouse if you want them all year-round.

We have kept vegetable plants such as tomatoes, peppers, strawberries, herbs, and a lot of other veggies going all year long.

Personally, I like to clean out, clear everything, and start fresh on most of it every couple of years. The tomatoes, herbs, strawberries, onions, and garlic are usually continuous with little to no extra effort.

Greenhouse Tips For Vegetables That Can Grow Throughout The Year

Strawberries

The everbearing variety of strawberries should be cleaned out of old debris and waste at least once a year.

Generally, I would add fresh compost every spring, just to place a new layer on top of the old soil, and add ground-level containers with slug bait to catch any slugs and other critters.

Garlic

For garlic, we install some bulbs over the seed throughout their growing periods; that way, we have a continuous flow of great, fresh garlic all year long. You can just snip off the seed heads and allow them to dry, then replant in the same area.

Herbs

When it comes to greenhouse herbs, they should be snipped and dried as often as needed. However, never cut more than 1/3 of the plant.

Why? Well, cutting more may cause it to die off too fast. Nevertheless, you will be amazed at how much herb you will get with just 1/3 of a plant.

In other words, a greenhouse can practically grow vegetables all year if you have lighting. Of course, it also depends on average temperatures and temperature swings in your area.

Typically, in temperate locations, things in the Lily family, such as brassica vegetables, will die in extreme cold. However, sometimes these plants will stop growing only to resume their growth in warmer weather.
